Chores, however onerous, have been a staple of growing up for time immemorial. Chores alleviated the housework parents or guardians had and taught children necessary skills in surviving where they lived, be it tending the fire, collecting water, or tidying up their bedroom. In many communities, chores were a shared activity between family members, strengthening the bonds between siblings or cousins and parents and extended family like aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
