CHAPTER TWO, in which Tom gets the town boys to whitewash the fence for him

Chapter Two of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer online

Chores, however onerous, have been a staple of growing up for time immemorial.  Chores alleviated the housework parents or guardians had and taught children necessary skills in surviving where they lived, be it tending the fire, collecting water, or tidying up their bedroom.  In many communities, chores were a shared activity between family members, strengthening the bonds between siblings or cousins and parents and extended family like aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Your mission for Chapter Two:
Go to this website, http://www.mechanicsburgmuseum.org/boy.htm, and find the answer to the following question:

What are two chores that a boy in the 1850s or 1860s might have to do?

Remember to post your answers here in the Comment Box. When we have 5 correct responses, we'll post the next chapter quest.  You'll need to keep track of the correct answer to each chapter's quest to solve the riddle and have a chance to win the Big Read Super Reader Prize!
