Sneak Peek: The Rehearsal Room

While we're waiting for a few more comments on Chapter One, here's the first installment of Sneak Peeks/Fun Facts & Trivia for all the Tom Sawyer readers out there.  Today's Sneak Peek comes from the rehearsal room, where the first week of rehearsals ended yesterday.  Below are a few images from things in use as the director, stage manager, assistant stage manager, and actors begin to get the show "on its feet."  This being a sneak peek, by definition, we can't let you in on the whole shebang, so just use your imagination about what these might be!

CHAPTER ONE, in which Tom beats on a well-dressed boy he’s just met

Chapter One of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer online
(In each post, we will include the link to the chapter's online text at Project Gutenberg.)

Your mission for Chapter One:
Go to this website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1850s_in_fashion  Find the answer to this question:

In the 1850s, well-dressed young boys often wore two pieces of clothing that we might consider female garments today.  Look for the pictures of kids on the website: what are the two garments?

Remember to post your answers here in the Comment Box. When we have 5 correct responses, we'll post the next chapter quest.  You'll need to keep track of the correct answer to each chapter's quest to solve the riddle and have a chance to win the Big Read Super Reader Prize!

(Check out our very first post from January 7 to find out more about The Big Read blog and The Picket Fence prize!)

Welcome to The Picket Fence!!!

Are you reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer?  WE are!  It’s part of THE BIG READ sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, and we’re super excited to explore this amazing book.

You can join other Tom Sawyer readers in a quest to discover strange, unusual, and fun facts that connect to the story.  Complete the quests for all 35 chapters, and you’ll be entered to win free tickets to our show, a backstage tour, and get your picture taken on stage with the actors!

Here’s how it works:
Each time you finish a chapter, check back here for that chapter’s quest.  Follow the included web link, do some exploring, and come back here to post your solution to the quest.  When we get ten responses to the chapter, we’ll post the next chapter’s quest. You’ll also get sneak previews and behind-the-scenes info about our upcoming production!

(If you don’t have an e-mail address to use to post your response, check with your parents or a teacher and they can help you complete your quest.)
