CHAPTER SEVEN, in which Tom and Joe play with a tick

Tom’s tick provides a great source of amusement during school as Tom and Joe manipulate it on their slate.  Ticks are not insects but arachnids, like spiders or scorpions, and are dependent upon a host to survive.  Today, ticks are considered a hazard of camping and outdoor activity as they can carry Lyme disease.
