CHAPTER TEN, in which Tom and Huck make a blood oath

Tom and Huck hear the stray dog’s howl and believe the superstition that it indicates the person at whom it howls will die.  Realizing it faces Muff Potter and has it’s back toward them, they feel safer.  Superstitions have existed since before the Roman Empire and persist through today; many folks still avoid flying on Friday the 13th.
